Trench Periscope Mirror
; 1914-1918; GH002652

From:Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

Name/TitleTrench Periscope Mirror

About this objectA Periscope Mirror, [also known as a 'Bayonet Mirror'] issued to British, Empire and US soldiers during WW1 for use in trench warfare. It is a glass mirror in a metal [tin] case, (originally would have been painted green) with a lid on a hinged clip on the back for fitting to a 1907 pattern bayonet. The clip allows the mirror to be used as a trench periscope if the rifle is poked vertically above the trench parapet.
