'Glenavy
Nov 3rd., 1918
Dear Santa Claus,
How are you getting on, I hope you are coming round this Xmas. This year I would like you to leave me a pair of black stockings with red tops on them, and some hair ribbons please. I thank you very much for the presents last year, mother made some pinafores out of the cloth, and the box of fancy pins. I have still got them yet but I have lost a few. Please Santa Claus could you tell me how old you are I often wonder about you. Mother says you will not come this year but she is only joking with me. I am in Std II at school now, I am knitting a pair of bed socks at school and will soon be finished them. I am nine years of age and I am not very big. I hope you will be in Oamaru this year so I can come and see you. Could you bring me your photo so I can have a good look at it but I often see it in the paper not very long ago I saw it. I hope you have not a cold, and a windy night the night you come round. Mum says your face was as jolly as it is now she said it has never changed since you started coming to her. I hope you have a nice Christmas day for I always do after you have been here. Now Santa Claus I think I will end off now as that is all I have to say. With best wishes from your little friend Gladys
